Crystal Pause

My mind is full of emptiness;

Crystal Pause

My mind is full of emptiness;
    i do not even dream.
I watch the little waves caress
    The sand with sunny gleam.
Like silver bells their music sweet
                    Is all all about my feet.

My mind with nothingness is filled,
    I'm tranquil as a tree;
To perfect peace my heart is stilled,
    In all I hear and see.
My being is absorbed and I
                    Am part of sea and sky.

My mind is void . . . and yet I must
    recall my name and place,
Shake off this oneness with the dust,
    This lineage with space:
Let thought seep back into my brain,
                    And find myself again.

Life has so much to tell and teach,
    And memory to recall . . .
Yet oh to brood upon the beach,
    To scarcely think at all;
And tuned to earth and sky and sea
                    Forget that I am me.
